Charleston, SC- March 7, 2013 - Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford today announced the release of his third television ad in the SC-1 special election, entitled “Difference.”
The spot will begin airing Thursday, and will join Sanford’s other ads in rotation on district-wide broadcast and cable.
In the new ad, Sanford speaks directly to the camera, highlighting a number of accomplishments including:
“I was the first in all of Congress in not spending your money”
- Sanford was rated number one by the National Taxpayers Union and Citizens Against Government Waste for efforts to watch out for taxpayers.
“I was financially the most conservative governor in America”
- Sanford was rated as the most financially conservative governor in America by the CATO Institute.
“I was the first governor to turn back stimulus money”
- Sanford fought a well-chronicled lawsuit with the General Assembly in which the SC Supreme Court ultimately forced Sanford to take the stimulus dollars, after he had refused for months to do so.
“When I got to Columbia, we saved almost a $1 billion and a whole lot more”
- Sanford successfully fought to eliminate a $155 million unconstitutional deficit, a $105 million accounting deficit and repay over $700 million in raided trust and reserve funds. In addition, Sanford successfully fought for a small business tax cut, saving $129 million annually and for the largest recurring tax cut in state history.
“I am in this race because I believe our nation is at a tipping point with regard to spending, and my record over the past 20 years gives us a unique ability to be able to impact that fight from Day One,” Sanford said. “Our record is one of consistently looking out for taxpayers, and I’d humbly ask for the support of voters in the first district in continuing that fight.”
